Thoughts

I'm at Dad's house at the moment ready to do more sorting out after a visit to the Funeral Directors yesterday. In the background I have on some of the songs he loved, Dave Brubeck's 'Take Five' at the moment, and other songs and pieces I have chosen from knowing his love of them, or from looking at his Youtube favourites list. I feel really close to him listening to music as he loved it so much. Only on Christmas Day, he was telling me over the phone how much he loved music, all kinds of music, it didn't matter. He said it with so much passion and enthusiasm that it was one of the highlights of Christmas Day for me to hear him being so happy about something amidst all the other challenges of his life at the time. Next up is 'The Very Thought of You' by Nat King Cole...

I have spent quite some time putting this together, writing about my Dad’s life. Here is a few words which which I will attempt to briefly explain my feelings. I have been lucky to have had a Dad who never failed to love me, was always present and who made me feel loved. It’s not to say that things were always easy. Some times were challenging, some times he was hard to help when I so wanted to, but as time went on, I realised I had helped, but in a different way: by being rather than doing. I had the good fortune of having enough time to spend with him and I wouldn’t have missed a minute of all the years we had together.

Mr B. was a nice bloke. I always got on well with him, often shooting the breeze about politics, football, cricket, printing, northern people, family, Only Fools and Horses, amongst many other things. I'll miss our conversations, and going down to his house on First Avenue, West Molesey. I'd like to think that he is now resting in peace in the great filing cabinet in the sky but, knowing Mr B., he'll be too busy creating a brand new filing system, which, I suspect, will keep him occupied forever. So long, Andy.
