Denis loved sport in general and as well as enjoying watching football, he loved watching most sports on the TV: athletics, golf, tennis, Formula 1, snooker, darts, and many more, especially the Olympics.

Denis played in the Molesey and District darts league for many years during the 1980's, winning individual trophies as well as team competitions with his friend Terry from work. He once played a challenge match against Eric Bristow and nearly took a leg off him, the crafty cockney was impressed with his arrows.

Denis played cricket for Surrey Boy's Club from 1954 - 1955 and also enjoyed playing tennis; well, he did live in Wimbledon after all!

He had a fear of swimming from a bad childhood experience but encouraged but his family and his friend Terry, he took a course of swimming lessons when he was 46 and not only learned to swim, but discovered a love of swimming and he went every week until he was in his early 70's. He was a natural and had no fear of diving or swimming under water from then on.
